EU PPWR Packaging Compliance: Shangwey Is Ready

Official Technical Release · Regulation (EU) 2025/40

Shangwey has completed an end-to-end EU PPWR packaging readiness system for cookware programs, covering recyclable design, chemical controls, labeling support, declarations, and batch-level documentation.

The European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR / Regulation (EU) 2025/40) entered into force on 11 February 2025 and applies from 12 August 2026, repealing Directive 94/62/EC. It introduces mandatory requirements for packaging recyclability, chemical safety, and labeling across supply chains.

Readiness Framework

Five Technical Upgrades for EU PPWR Compliance

01 · CHEMICAL SAFETY

Heavy Metals Below the Statutory Ceiling

Lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium in boxes, cartons, kraft liners, tapes, and labels remain below the combined 100 ppm limit.

02 · SUBSTANCE CONTROL

PFAS and Plasticizer Controls

Intentional PFAS addition is eliminated from food-contact packaging and paper barriers. Phthalates and bisphenols are managed in line with applicable REACH requirements.

03 · PRINTING SYSTEM

Low-VOC, Recycling-Compatible Inks

Heavy-metal-free carbon black and low-VOC lithographic inks are used with MOSH/MOAH controls to protect paper-pulp recyclability.

04 · DESIGN FOR RECYCLING

Less Empty Space, Better Material Recovery

Empty-space ratios stay below 50%. Redundant walls and false bottoms are removed, with PAP 20/21 cartons reaching Class A and PP 5 / LDPE 4 protective bags reaching Class B.

05 · MARKET LABELING

Material Codes and Regional Sorting Marks

Packaging artwork can integrate PAP 20, PAP 21, and PP 5 material codes, with adaptation for French Triman/Info-tri, Italian environmental labels, and digital QR information.
